My name is Charmelle O’Dell and I am currently a sophomore student at Bowling Green State University. I am majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in Media Production. I would like to further my education in broadcast journalism to earn my Masters and Ph.D. degree within the major. I am very interested in the way broadcast journalism works in the ways people receive, portray and communicate with the news. I am also fascinated by broadcasting and editing. In fact, both were fundamental causes that led me to choose the major broadcast journalism. After graduating from Bowling Green State University my future interests are to become a well-known television and radio host along with owning my own production company. With continuing my career with journalism I would like to inspire others as well. I want to start scholarship programs for others that are apart of the broadcast and media production fields.
Outside of broadcasting, I am also apart of a student organization at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) , called Fadwatch. Fadwatch is a fashion organization that promotes originality, self-confidence, and courage. As being apart of this organization I am the Social Media Co-Chair. I am in charge of spreading the news about upcoming events, shows, fundraisers, community service, etc. As a Co-chair, I am also in charge of editing social media posts and videos as well as interviewing others outside of the organization. This organization has helped me to improve many skills including team building, organization, and communication. Because I am apart of an executive board with seven others it is important for us all to inspire, educate and uplift one another as apart of our teambuilding. I am also apart of the Trio student organization on BGSU’s campus. Trio’s goal is to promote students to overcome social and cultural barriers. Trio has assisted me in skills such as self-confidence and percerverance that I will be able to use for the rest of my life.
