Faces of BG

For my interview, I chose to speak to one of my teammates who also happens to be my best friend. Nikhita Jacob is a Junior Biology major at Bowling Green State University. Although she is a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Jacob and her family come from a diverse background.

Her parents were both born out of the United States — her mother is from Barbados and her father was born in India — which caused her to grow up with a passion for diversity and assorted cultures, customs, and communities. Jacob is also a member of the We Are One Team (WA1T) Team Player Program on campus and, in addition, is a member of the Alumni Laureate Scholars.

About Me

Hello, my name is Gabriella Magallanes. I am from Pomona, California and am 20 years old. I am currently a third year student at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. I am majoring in Public Relations, and am minoring in Spanish. I also play for the Bowling Green Women’s Soccer team, and am the recruitment chair for We Are One Team (WA1T) — a student ran organization that works towards promoting inclusion and diversity through means of sport.

In high school, I was employed through Farmers Insurance for one year during my senior year. My duties as administrative assistant for the office included answering the phone and taking messages, creating spreadsheets, communicating with Spanish-speakers, taking online payments, and filing paperwork. Through this job, I was able to develop and better my “people skills”, and gain an understanding as to what it takes to run an office. Although I was young when I took the job, I believe that this job helped me grow and mature because I realized I was dealing with real, adult people who needed someone to help them that was going to be professional and understanding.

Currently, I am interning for Mallory Hiser — the media coordinator for BG Falcon Media Athletics. My duties here are different than those I had at Farmers Insurance. Here, I am able to be more creative and test out new ideas. Duties at this job include brainstorming new ideas to generate content that fans want to see, as well as getting more fans to interact with the Athletics at BGSU as a whole. Being detail-oriented is a quality that I take pride in, which helps me when I am asked to complete a task that has been assigned to me for content because I like to see my work done all the way through.
